Molluscum contagiosum is a benign infection of the skin and mucous membranes caused by the molluscum contagiosum virus. Most people with mollusca have multiple lesions, which typically begin as small papules that enlarge to around 3-6mm and rarely to more than 1cm in diameter. Fully developed papules typically have a central umbilication or depression that contains a white, waxy, curd-like core. Most lesions resolve without scarring, but they may cause discomfort or itching.
Infections with molluscum contagiosum virus occur throughout the world, but the incidence varies considerably, with higher rates in areas with warm climates. Patients with weakened immune system are particularly prone to molluscum contagiosum infection and have increased difficulty in clearing lesions. Children are most often affected.
Molluscum contagiosum is a member of the pox virus family. Transmission of molluscum can occur during contact with infected lesions, contaminated fomites, or sexual contact. And autoinoculation through scratching is also suspected. Molluscum outbreaks have occurred among children attending swimming pools.
After a variable incubation period, the lesions persist for several months and resolve spontaneously or as a result of the inflammatory response following trauma or secondary bacterial infection. In immunocompromised people, e.g., patients with acquired immune deficiency syndrome, molluscum contagiosum usually does not resolve spontaneously and is often refractory to treatment.
Molluscum contagiosum is self-limiting in immunocompetent individuals. Many parents of children with molluscum contagiosum may seek treatment because of concerns about the appearance of the lesions, persistence of lesions, spread of lesions, or because of other people s comments. The aims of treatment are to shorten the duration of the condition, to resolve discomfort, to limit spread, and to prevent secondary bacterial infection.
Clinical cure of all infected lesions is the clinically most relevant outcome. Treatment success is defined as the proportion of patients completely cleared of all molluscum lesions. Treatment success should ideally be assessed four to eight weeks after the discontinuation of treatment. Secondary outcomes include the time to clearance of all lesions and the cosmetic result.
Topical treatments that do not leave scars and are not associated with severe adverse events may be tried in order to limit the spread, shorten the course of molluscum contagiosum, for cosmetic reason, and to suppress accompanying symptoms. Options that can be recommended include sodium nitrite, salicylic acid cream for non-facial lesions and benzoyl peroxide cream.
Although synthetic drugs are effective, they have much side effects. Natural treatment is composed of organic extracts selected for their antiviral activity against pox viruses, their ability to heal skin tissue and to strengthen immune defenses. Natural treatments have marked antiviral activity against molluscum and possess antioxidant properties.
The basis of natural therapy lies in believing that as the essence of nature, human body itself has already acquired the experiences that nature uses to resist a variety of injuries and stress for billions of years. These experiences are written in DNA in the form of code. If necessary, these codes would open, starting a series of emergency and reclamation activities. The manifestation of these activities are in fact symptoms known diseases.
It is one form of biological treatment according to existing resources in body when you get injured. It is also a mean of self-protection under pressure, which is a compromise approach to aim to build new balance from the broken balance. These means of self-protection are stochastic and they make adjustments randomly according to different pressure. Each adjustment shows a series of symptoms and different diseases are named depending on different symptoms medically.
As disease means self-healing of the body, doctors are unable to help people recover physically and mentally before they fully realize the actual intention of disease to the body. If we change disease treatment to the process of self-protection by supporting the body against the pressure, treatment of the body can receive favorable support to help the body heal. Natural treatment provides systemic support to help eradicate molluscum. To learn more, please go to http://www.naturespharma.org.
